Jane Reichold Haiga Contest

 

I am honoured to say that my photo haiga entry has been named the winner in the photograph based category of the second annual Jane Reichold Contest. (photo haiga is a combination of two art forms, photography and haiku)

It is featured this month in two online journals, Prune Juice, a Journal of Senryu, Kyoka and Haiga and Failed Haiku, a Journal of English Senryu, who jointly sponsored this worldwide haiga contest.

My sincere thank you to the editors, Steve Hodge and Mike Rehling, and to the judge of the photograph based category, Linda Papanicolaou. I am grateful to all.

The Smell of Roses

So pleased to sign a contract yesterday with Crimson Cloak Publishing, who will publish my second women’s fiction novel, The Smell of Roses. (More to follow soon…)

Jennifer Mook Sang

Every writer needs supportive friends. People who will buy their book, take time to leave a review of it online, like their facebook posts, and leave supportive comments. Jennifer Mook Sang is that kind of friend and more. Her picture book, “Captain Monty Takes The Plunge” is launching this month at A Different Drummer Books in Burlington, on October 14th, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. People probably thought I was half joking when I commented “counting down the days” on her facebook page. But, I really am. After reading her first book, “Speechless”, I am that sure, that it will be brilliant. And I will be there, trying to give back a drop in the ocean of support, that she has given me.

Introduction to Haiku Workshop

I put up an author page (Elizabeth Crocket) on facebook in August to share my news about having my first women’s fiction novel released next year. Thanks to everyone who took the time to like or comment!

Thanks to NeverEnding Story for publishing another of my haiku on July 7. I always learn from the comments Chen-ou leaves on each haiku he publishes. Now, if only I could find a way to retain them! (:

Burlington Authors in Celebration of Canada 150

I went to the New Appleby Library on Friday night to see the Burlington Authors Canada 150 display, which celebrates literature from the Burlington area. Shelves of books by authors such as Linwood Barclay, Lawrence Hill, Marni Jackson, Ian Hamilton, Jennifer Mook Sang, Sylvia McNicoll and so many more. I found it to be truly awe-inspiring.

As this is a mobile display, watch for its arrival at your local branch. It will be at a different location each month, until the end of the year. I’m so humbled and pleased to be a part of it. A huge thank you to all the organizers of this project. For more information: Burlington.ca/Canada 150.

Introduction to Haiku

Was so happy to lead an Introduction to Haiku Workshop this afternoon, at my local library. Wow, what an accomplished group of women who showed up…writers, artists, poets…A big thank you to Jennifer, Karen, Judy, Ruth, Linda, Susan, Wendy, Sylvia, and Diane!! So wonderful to meet/see you all! Thanks for your enthusiastic participation!

March 31st, I had one of my haiku published in NeverEnding Story. Thank you, Chen-ou! Always an honour.

It was fun to come across one of my haiku on Glenn Ingersoll’s blog, “dareIread”, as one of the best poems of 2016. Thank you, Glenn!
So excited that I’ve pre-ordered Jennifer Mook-Sang’s picture book, “Captain Monty.”
Can not wait to read it!!

April 1 Cover Art

It was an honour to hear from Mike Rehling, Editor of Failed Haiku, a Journal of English Senryu, that one of my photo haiga has been selected for the April 1st cover art. No, that’s not an April Fool’s joke! (: A huge thank you to Mike!

I had the opportunity of going to the Dundas Writers’ Group “First Annual Meet the Author Night” on February 25th. It was held at the Dundas Little Theatre. What a fun, entertaining and enjoyable evening. Got to listen to some great book excerpts from poets and authors alike. Matthew Bin did a great job as the MC. I’ll be back next year!

I’m preparing a small workshop “Introduction to Haiku” for my local library. Looking forward to sharing my enjoyment of haiku with others.

Crimson Cloak Publishing

I am thrilled to say that I have just signed a contract with Crimson Cloak Publishing for my women’s fiction/romance novel “A Path to the Lake.” It probably won’t be available for a year or so, but I will keep you posted as news develops.

Thank you to Carly McCracken and the Crimson Cloak Publishing team. An extra bonus was finding out they have contributed to so may charitable causes, including The World Literacy Foundation, World Child Cancer and more. I look so forward to working with them!
